Joint Replacement Experts

Grand View Health has been recognized as a High Performer for Hip and Knee Replacement surgery by US News and World Report and is one of the first in the region to use state-of-the-art MAKO robotic technology for hip and knee replacement procedures.

Our joint replacement program includes replacement of hips, knees, shoulders, and ankles. Joint replacement surgery procedures are performed at The Joint Center at Grand View Health—a unit dedicated to the care and recovery of joint surgery patients. It is staffed by specially trained nurses, therapists and technicians who will coordinate your care and get you back to your favorite activities as quickly as possible. Most patients can return home the same day as their surgery.

Robotic-Assisted Mako Technology

Our state-of-the-art robotic assisted Mako technology can mean a quicker recovery, increased mobility and outcomes better than state and national norms.

Before surgery, a CT scan of your knee is taken to develop a 3D virtual model of your unique joint. Your doctor uses this model to evaluate your bone structure, disease severity, joint alignment and even the surrounding bone and tissue, so they can determine the optimal size, placement and alignment of your implant. This advanced planning process assures a high degree of precision when replacing your joint.

Total and Partial Knee Replacement

Grand View Health offers a minimally invasive, quadricep sparing technique for total knee replacement. Over time, the cartilage that cushions the bones can wear away, cause pain and discomfort. This can be due to conditions such as osteoarthritic, rheumatoid arthritis, disease or traumatic injury. Joint replacement surgery, also called arthroplasty is the replacement of a damaged joint with an artificial joint made of metal, ceramic and/or plastic parts.

With advances in surgical techniques, pain management and pre- and post-op care, it’s now common for many patients to return home the same day as their knee replacement surgery.

Hip Replacement

Grand View Health offers a minimally invasive direct anterior and posterior approach to total hip replacement, a surgical procedure where the worn-out surfaces of the hip are replaced with metal and plastic components. Hip replacement can reduce or eliminate pain, allow easier movement, and get you back to the activities you enjoy. Most patients can return home the same day as their hip replacement surgery.

Upper Bucks Orthopaedics offers many non-surgical options for the treatment of diseased or damaged joints. Our doctors work with their patients to carefully evaluate health and lifestyle goals to determine the best treatment.

Same Day Discharge for Joint Replacement Surgery

Advancements in joint replacement surgery have made it possible for many to return home following surgery without any stay in the hospital.

Many of our patients prefer to recover while sleeping in their own bed surrounded by family and pets.

Patients who are in good general health with appropriate support at home may be eligible for this option following surgery.

Grand View Health’s Same Day Discharge Program requires additional pre- and post- surgery preparation which includes the following:

  • Pre-operative physical therapy to learn exercises, and master skills and techniques to accelerate recovery
  • Pre-operative education to address questions about what to expect when undergoing joint replacement surgery
  • Anesthesia and pain protocols to promote mobility sooner following surgery
  • Post-operative care coordination to assure a safe return home

Please discuss this option with your surgeon who will review your medical condition and determine if our Same Day Discharge Program is right for you.

Recover with the “myrecovery” App

Patients who undergo joint replacement surgery have found the myrecovery app to be a helpful tool for tracking progress after surgery. Here’s how it works:

  • Our care team enters your name into our system
  • You will receive an email or text message with registration information and instructions
  • You download the app to your smartphone or tablet

That’s it. The “myrecovery” app is available on Apple’s app store and Google Play. If you don’t have a smart phone or tablet, but you have access to a computer, you can use the online link in your welcome email to register. Questions about the app can be sent to support@myrecovery.com.
