Grand View Health Spine Program

After crashing her bike, triathlete Ilana Zeises required complex spine surgery to get her back on her feet and back to competing in triathlons. The spine program at Grand View Health helped her do both.

Each patient receives highly personalized care that starts with a thorough medical history, review of symptoms and evaluation of past injuries. From there, we perform appropriate diagnostic imaging and will craft a treatment plan specific to the patient and their goals.

Staffed by fellowship-trained experts, the Spine Program provides comprehensive care for many common patient conditions and injuries, including:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Sports and work-related injuries
  • Cervical and lumbar stenosis
  • Herniated disks
  • Sciatica
  • Spine trauma and fractures
  • Scoliosis
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Spinal tumors
  • Cervical myelopathy

Conservative Treatments

Our multidisciplinary team includes orthopaedics, physiatry, neurosurgery and physical therapy, all part of the specialty services offered by Grand View Health. Our common goal is to alleviate a patient’s pain, restore mobility and regain strength. Our mission is to get patients back to the activities they enjoy.

Physiatry

Physiatrists Sanjay Digamber, MD and Ali Shah, MD specialize in treating back and neck conditions non-operatively. They use X-rays and MRIs to diagnose the root cause of a patient’s discomfort. They offer an array of non-surgical treatment options, including:

  • Epidural steroid injections
    (interlaminar and transforaminal)
  • Hip and bursal injections
  • Nerve blocks
  • Sacroiliac joint injections
  • Trigger point injections

Our physiatry team also offers radiofrequency ablation, a minimally invasive procedure that destroys the nerve fibers that transmit the sensation of pain.

Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical Approaches

We believe many spinal conditions can be treated non-surgically. But if a patient’s condition requires surgery, neurosurgeons Howard Eisenbrock, DO, and Ami Raval, MD, as well as orthopaedic surgeon Ernest Cope III, MD offer an array of minimally invasive and complex surgical treatments, including:

  • Cervical disk replacement
  • Discectomies
  • Laminectomies
  • Spinal fusion
  • Spinal revision surgeries
  • Spinal cord tumor surgeries
  • Neurostimulator implantation
