Giving just a few hours each week to volunteer at Grand View Health makes a positive impact on the well-being of our patients, staff and visitors. Just ask Sara Talha.
A doctor in her home country of Pakistan, Talha came to the U.S. in November 2019 when her father-in-law, a U.S. citizen, was at the end stage of a terminal illness. At the time, he was receiving care from Grand View Hospice.
“Every day, Grand View’s nurses’ aides came to our house,” Talha says. “They were very impressive, very professional and very caring.”
After her father-in-law’s passing, Talha, who now lives in Harleysville, began studying to become a doctor in the U.S., and she wanted a chance to work in a hospital setting and give back to those who helped her. So, she applied to be a volunteer at Grand View Health.
Today, she volunteers twice a week in the Emergency Department, providing water, warm blankets and a listening ear to patients.
“I’m so happy to be working in a hospital environment again, which I love,” Talha says. “I’m able to help people, give back to the community and return all the favors I’ve received.”
Talha has since passed all her U.S. licensing exams and is seeking a sponsor to start a family medicine residency position. “I want to become a competent, board-certified doctor and provide my services for this community to my full potential,” Talha says.
