Representatives from Bucks County Commissioners, Bucks County Drug & Alcohol Commission, Inc., Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, Bucks County Health Improvement Partnership (BCHIP) and area hospitals, including Doug Hughes, RN, BSN, MBA, President and CEO, Grand View Health (3rd from the right) celebrated the launch of the permanent sharps boxes at a media event on Friday, Sept. 9.

Starting today, community members have a safe and convenient way to dispose of unused, unneeded or expired sharps. A permanent Sharps Disposal Box, called “Secure Sharps,” is now located in the main lobby of Grand View Hospital in Sellersville.

Sharps include products such as needles, syringes, lancets and finger sticks, and EpiPens® and other auto injectors. Sharps disposed of in the box will be collected on a regular basis.

Until recently, the only way people could dispose of sharps was through a pharmacy or online service.

The Secure Sharps box is a collaboration among Grand View Health and the Bucks County Medication Disposal Program, supported by the Bucks County Drug & Alcohol Commission, Bucks County Commissioners, the Bucks County District Attorney, and the Bucks County Healthcare Improvement Partnership (BCHIP), which aims to develop programs and policies that improve the health outcomes and well-being of the community.

The Grand View Hospital lobby also includes a green MedReturn box, where community members can safely dispose of unused, unneeded or expired prescription medications.

The sharps box is located in the main lobby at Grand View Hospital in Sellersville.
