The Grand View Hospital Auxiliary presented the hospital with a $120,000 gift for use towards the $184 million building campaign, This Is Us Together, during the Auxiliary’s annual meeting held June 3 at Rising Sun Inn.
Barb Matkowski, Auxiliary Treasurer, presented the check. Accepting the gift on behalf of the hospital were Sandy Alderfer, Chairman of the Grand View Health Foundation Board, and Jean Keeler, JD, President and CEO of Grand View Health.
The Auxiliary elected and installed four board members for a two-year term: President, Pat Schuck; Vice President, Beth Schild; Assistant Treasurer, Penny Markley; and Recording Secretary, Debbie Horne.
Also at the meeting, two longtime board members, Martha Otto and Bernice Duvall, were recognized and each given a plaque and flowers.
Martha Otto received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her 45 years of service. She chaired or participated in numerous major fundraising events including balls, gala, lawn fetes, fashion shows and flower sales. She has been chair of the Grand View Auxiliary Golf Tournament for more than 20 years and has served on the Gift Shop and Recovery Room Thrift Shop committees almost from inception. Martha also served as president from 2009 to 2011. She was selected as the first Auxilian of the Year in 1998 and was a recipient of the Jem Bowen Award for service in 2011.
Bernice Duvall was recognized by the Board for 27 years of service and dedication to the well-being of Grand View Health and Grand View Auxiliary. Bernice has been an Auxilian since 1993 and has been Chair and Co-Chair of the Membership Committee, Chair of the Holiday Spirit card project and served on the committees for Breakfasts with Santa and the Easter Bunny. Bernice, a Master Gardener, designed and cared for the gardens at the Recovery Room Thrift Shop. She too was a past recipient of the Auxilian of The Year award in 2007.
Auxiliary members hold a variety of events throughout the year. They participate in fundraising activities including Festival of Lights, a fashion show, raffles, bag bingo, the annual golf tournament, breakfasts with Santa and the Easter Bunny, the Recovery Room Thrift Shop, the Gift Shop and Holiday Spirit. The Auxiliary supports Grand View Health’s efforts throughout the community by raising funds to ensure the hospital is able to continue its mission of making quality health care available to area residents.
