Tru-D SmartUVC Robot Joins Grand View Hospital Cleaning Team

It’s 5 foot 5 inches tall. It emits a warm blue glow. And it’s the latest member of the Grand View Hospital cleaning team helping to keep patients safe from COVID-19 and other viruses.

Meet the Tru-D® SmartUVC germ-eliminating disinfection robot. It’s been added to the already stringent list of disinfection protocols followed by the hospital’s Environmental Services team.

The Tru-D SmartUVC uses patented Sensor360® technology to calculate the amount of chemical-free UVC energy needed to disinfect an entire room, effectively eliminating lingering pathogens in the space. The technology is proven to eradicate hard-to-kill germs and superbugs such as Clostridium difficile (C. diff), methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), VRE and Ebola.

“This technology enhances the high level of manual cleaning our team is already performing to protect patients at Grand View Health,” says Errol Costello, General Manager of Environmental Services for the hospital.

Before using Tru-D, hospital staff will clean rooms using traditional methods. They will then use Tru-D to administer a single cycle of UV energy, providing total room disinfection. Tru-D’s technology compensates for room variables such as size, shape and contents to deliver the precise dose of UVC energy needed. It’s capable of disinfecting both direct and shadowed areas.

Grand View is using Tru-D to clean any isolation rooms once a patient with suspected C. diff, COVID-19 or another infectious disease is discharged. It also uses Tru-D to perform end-of-day cleaning (called “terminal cleaning”) inside the hospital’s nine operating rooms.

“Acquiring this technology is yet another way that Grand View Health puts patient safety and quality of care first,” says Nancy Runta, Senior Director of Risk, Quality and Patient Safety at Grand View Health.
