Grand View Hospital Pursuing Level II Adult Trauma Center Accreditation

September 22nd, 2020

Grand View Hospital is pursuing Level II adult trauma center accreditation from the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF).

Level II trauma centers provide advanced care for injured patients, and will ensure the communities served by Grand View Health have immediate access to the most advanced services, 24 hours a day. It will also allow Grand View to give industry-leading trauma care close to home without the need for patients to transfer outside the community to receive treatment.

Grand View has partnered with Penn Medicine and the Penn Trauma Network, a national leader in trauma services.

Forrest Fernandez, MD, has been named Trauma Program Medical Director at Grand View. Fernandez is an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine and most recently served as Division Chief for Trauma and Surgical Critical Care for Reading Health System’s Level I Trauma Center in Reading Pennsylvania.

His undergraduate and medical training was completed at the University of Michigan and he completed his residency training at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI where he spent eight years in clinical practice in general surgery. After 911, Dr. Fernandez joined the US Army Reserves and has had three overseas mobilizations including Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“By pursuing Level II trauma center accreditation, Grand View Health is committed to building a team that will be prepared to treat the most serious injuries 24/7/365,” says Fernandez.

Marie Dieter, RN serves as Grand View’s Trauma Program Manager. Marie most recently served as Trauma Program Manager for Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Maryland’s third busiest Trauma Center. She has degrees from DeSales University in Center Valley Pa.

The PTSF, founded in 1985, is responsible for establishing standards for accrediting trauma centers at varying levels based on a hospital’s resources and capabilities. PTSF Standards are based on the latest edition of the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma (ACSCOT) Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient.

Standards for all levels of trauma centers can be found on the PTSF website, http://ptsf.org/.
