Working in the space between life and death has a way of grounding a person. Lori Rousche, Medical Director of the Grand View Hospice Program, has spent a lifetime finding ways to tell people the truth. So when she describes anything as “revolutionary,” you stop. You listen.

So, what’s going on? What’s the Grand View Healthcare Partnership all about?

LR: Well, it’s certainly an unusual setup. There’s a whole network of doctors, some employees of Grand View, others with private practices like mine, who’ve all joined together, communicating online in real time, for the benefit of our patients. It’s almost like we’re all in one huge office. Really, it’s revolutionary.

What has the partnership changed?

LR: A lot. Patients get better, faster access to specialists. We cut duplication—like two doctors ordering the same blood work. And there’s this almost instant flow of information. Your family doctor can use our secure texting app to quickly reach a specialist who’s with our care agreement–and you won’t have to wait too long to be seen.

Care Agreement?

LR: It’s a signed agreement that says, basically, we all share certain standards. Together, we’ve got the patient’s back.

Wow. What’s the end goal?

LR: More access to healthcare–but less time in the hospital. Think about that! A hospital that wants to help you stay out of the hospital! What we call quality metrics are critical, too. Because we’re now a more cohesive unit, we can offer more efficient care, which reduces the need for emergency care and re-admissions and ultimately costs less.

LR: Grand View is a wonderful hospital. That’s why.

Nobody Knows You Quite Like Your Neighbors

Because we live in community with our neighbors, we know our community health challenges particularly well.

Not surprisingly, it’s the same daunting list of issues that confound many Americans: obesity, cardiovascular disease, depression, lung disease, missed cancer screenings, untreated behavioral health. Increasing access for all will help us climb these mountains, so we’re increasing outpatient facilities and making them more convenient than ever. We grow where need grows. And we’ll continue to serve our neighbors in an uncommon way.

Today is Bryan’s 25^th Birthday

Right now, he’s a clean-shaven young guy in a Sellersville coffee shop, snapping pictures of his ham sandwich. He can’t imagine, ever, his gray-bearded future self on the left. But we can. In fact, anticipating Bryan’s needs at every stage of life–his continuum of care–is what we do best.

We’re in this together.

One of our urgent care centers will be there when Bryan sprains his ankle skateboarding (again). And while he doesn’t know it yet, that pretty red-haired stranger three tables away will become his wife. Their kids will be born at Grand View, and the whole family will see a range of doctors–including specialists from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia–right here in Bryan’s neighborhood.

Love. Hope. Technology.

The years will pass. Someday, we’ll be nudging Bryan about his cholesterol. And in 2055, when Grandpop Bryan gets a hip replacement with some technology we can’t even imagine in 2017, we’ll be here for him too. This is, after all, the mission and passion and genius of a community hospital. This is why we get up in the morning, or the afternoon, or the middle of the night.
