May 17th, 2016

EMS_Grand_View_Pediatric_AwardJust in time for National EMS Week, Grand View Health Emergency Medical Services Medic 151 has been recognized for its dedication to pediatric care by the Pennsylvania EMS for Children Pediatric Voluntary Recognition Program. Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Bureau of EMS and the Pennsylvania Emergency Health Service Council (PEHSC) EMS for Children (EMSC), the program ensures that EMS agencies within the commonwealth of Pennsylvania are prepared to provide quality pediatric care, while recognizing those that go above and beyond the current requirements.

Since its inception in 2013, 156 out of an estimated 1,100 EMS agencies across the state have been recognized by the EMSC Voluntary Recognition Program, including Grand View Health EMS, located in Sellersville, Pa. The program is structured to be a multi-level system of recognition, identifying pediatric equipment standards, child abuse background checks, pediatric-related continuing education courses, community outreach programs and car seat check programs. Grand View Health EMS was recognized at the Advanced Level by successfully completing child abuse background clearances, implementing pediatric-specific medical equipment in ambulances, and providing four hours of pediatric continuing education per year.

“Each year, more than 70,000 children are transported by ambulances in Pennsylvania,” said Grand View Health EMS Operations Supervisor and EMS Chief, Everitt F. Binns, Ph.D. He added, “This means that almost every seven minutes a child is being taken to the hospital with a potentially life-threatening medical condition. By participating in the EMSC Voluntary Recognition Program, we are prepared to respond to all types of emergency situations involving the youth in our community.”

Grand View Health EMS is the primary ambulance provider for the Boroughs of Perkasie, Sellersville and the Townships of West Rockhill, East Rockhill and Hilltown. Additionally, the ambulance service provides mutual aid coverage to surrounding areas.
