Surgical Services at Grand View Hospital
During Your Procedure
You will be taken into the operating room, where you’ll be carefully monitored by physicians and nurses. Most patients find the operating room cold, noisy and filled with activity; however, we will make you as comfortable as possible.
A Chance for Your Friend or Family Member to Take a Break
During your surgery, your escort may stay in the SSSU waiting room or Intensive Coronary Care Unit (ICCU) waiting room. The hospital cafeteria is conveniently located down the hall from the SSSU. Vending machines are located adjacent to the cafeteria. Cell phones may be used in the main lobby, cafeteria and ICCU waiting room.
The surgeon will speak with your friend or relative immediately after the surgery. Please name one friend or family member whom you would like as your representative. If this individual leaves the SSSU waiting room, remember to leave a telephone number with the receptionist.
Special Considerations for Children
A parent or guardian must accompany any patient 17 years old or younger and must remain in the hospital during the surgery.Young children often find comfort in a familiar object like a favorite stuffed animal, doll or security blanket. Older children might want to bring along hand-held video games or portable DVD players. During the procedure, parents need to say goodbye for a short time. Toys and comfort toys must be removed from the operating room. Following surgery, parents may join their children in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). For the ride home, we suggest that a second adult serve as the driver so you may comfort your child in the car.
