Grand View Hospital Set to Open New Medical-Surgical Floor
It is the first of two new units planned to open this month
(Published January 22, 2008) Grand View Hospital is ready to open a new Medical-Surgical unit, located on the third floor of the hospital. It is the first of two new units planned to open during the month of January. The new Joint Replacement Center, located on the fourth floor of the hospital, is expected to open January 29.
This renovation is part of Phase III of the hospital’s multi-year master facility plan. Phase I was the Outpatient Center in Harleysville, which opened in 2004, and Phase II was the Outpatient Center in Sellersville which opened its doors this past June. Additional improvements that are an upcoming part of Phase III include a significant renovation of the emergency department, reconstruction and expansion of the maternity unit and an updated post-surgical care area.
Portable computers at the bedside will allow clinicians on this floor and throughout the hospital to access the patient’s extensive electronic medical record. Over the past several years, Grand View Hospital has been developing its electronic medical record system to enhance efficiency and accessibility of medical records between physicians and the hospital. In addition, a new call system was installed where nurses carry a beeper so that they can be paged individually instead of through an intercom system.
The new floor will have medical-surgical and oncology patients. Overall, the new unit has 32 beds, including a bariatric room that is specially equipped with a bariatric lift.
The patient’s experience was considered in the planning of the new unit. For instance, all rooms were installed with flat-screen televisions. The unit also includes all new furniture, and features aesthetically pleasing colors and design.
“The staff is very excited about moving into our new unit,” says Cris Anilado, RN, MSN, department manager of the new Medical-Surgical/Oncology Unit. “It is really going to benefit the patients – both in the service and quality of care that they receive, as well as a better overall patient experience. And we are looking forward to seeing how the patients react.”
