Grand View Hospital on Schedule with Expansion and Construction of New Outpatient Center, Near Sellersville
(Published November 8, 2006) West Rockhill Township — Grand View Hospital has made significant progress in its efforts to expand the hospital on Lawn Avenue, near Sellersville, and to construct a new 70,000-square-foot outpatient center, just off Route 309.
Hospital Improvements
Structural steel for the construction of two new nursing units was delivered Nov. 2 and will be erected over the next several weeks atop the existing roofline. A 32-bed medical surgical unit will be relocated into the new space. Also, the Joint Replacement Center and the Orthopaedic unit will be relocated into a second new unit, which will include 20 private rooms. The relocation of these services will enable the hospital to expand and improve other areas of the hospital including the maternity unit, surgical suite, imaging services and emergency department.
In addition, the project features the construction of a new entrance and an elevator in the rear of the hospital, which will lead patients and visitors directly from the ground level to the Surgical Suite on the third floor.
While the steel is being erected, the outpatient hospital entrance will be closed to vehicles, although it will remain open to pedestrians. Grand View has contracted with Cascades Construction of Philadelphia to make the improvements at an estimated cost of $16 million. The construction is expected to take about one year.
New Outpatient Center Construction
Meanwhile, construction on the $16.3 million Grand View Hospital Outpatient Center at Sellersville, Lawn Avenue and Route 309, remains on schedule and is expected to be completed in May. Penn Builders of Quakertown is the contractor for the $12.3-million project, which will include an additional $4 million for equipment. The center’s first phase consists of a lower level, first floor and shell of second floor.
The first floor will include:
- Women’s Health Services, complete with:
- A breast care center with digital mammography, the most advanced technology available, proven to be more effective in screening younger women; a radiologist on-site to read test results; and a breast care coordinator to provide education and support.
- Dexa bone scanning to identify osteoporosis
- Ultrasound
- Outpatient Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Services, including physical, occupational and speech therapies
- Imaging Center, including a CT scanner, X-ray and EKG
- Laboratory Services
Several services will relocate from the hospital campus to the new outpatient center. These are:
- Cardiac Rehabilitation
- Pulmonary Rehabilitation
- Sports Medicine
The center will employ approximately 65 people, many of whom will transfer from the hospital. Hospital officials estimate that patients will make about 55,000 visits per year.
The outpatient center is the second phase of Grand View’s $56 million building project designed to meet the community’s changing health care needs. The first phase of the project included construction of the Grand View Hospital Outpatient Center at Harleysville, which opened in August 2004.
The project was made possible in part by a fundraising campaign, “Expanding The Vision,” which raised $8.9 million. The campaign exceeded the $8 million campaign goal due to the generosity of employees, trustees, auxiliary members, medical staff, local businesses and community donors for which the hospital is very grateful.
