Adult Pneumonia Trials
Risk Factors For Drug Resistant Pnuemococcal Pneumonia:
The Primary aim of this study is to identify risk factors for penicillin resistance in adult patients with community acquired pneumonia bacteremic pneumococcal pneumonia with special attention to prior B-lactam antimicrobial dtug use. The secondary aims are to:
1) to develop a prediction rule for penicillin resistance in patients with bacteremic pneumococcal pneumonia
and
2) to measure the impact of different levels of penicillin drug resistance on medical outcomes in these patients.
Pediatric Pneumonia Trials
Valent Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine:
A phase III , randomized, active-controlled, double-blind trial evaluating the safety, tolerability and immunologic noninferiority of a 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine compared to a seven-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in healthy infants given with a routine pediatric vaccinations in the United States.
Lab Vacutainer (blood test tubes) Studies
BD Vacutainer:
An evaluation of the clinical performance of Benson Dickenson (BD) Vacutainer 2.7ml plus mold validated citrate tubes to currently marketed BD Vacutainer 4.5ml glass and 2.7 ml plus citrate tubes for selected coagulation testing. Due to the increased awareness of safety and environmental concerns regarding the use of glass as opposed to plastic, this trial will evaluate the performance of BD Vacutainer Plus, 0.109 M sodium citrate using mold-production validated tubes for selected coagulation trays.
