CHOP Connection

Since its inception in 1913, Grand View Hospital has always maintained a separate area for the care of infants and children. Our pediatric program covers the needs of all children from newborn to age 18. Grand View's 16-bed, inpatient unit is the only dedicated pediatric unit in the region.

To continue providing the best possible care for the children of our community, Grand View Hospital, in conjunction with The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), has established the CHOP Connection. This innovative program gives an
enhanced level of inpatient pediatric care and outpatient
pediatric specialty.

In addition to having a pediatrician available at all times, the pediatricians on the unit also have the advantage of phone consultations with pediatric specialists at CHOP.

The CHOP pediatricians are in constant communication with a child's primary pediatrician or family practitioner. The primary care physician is contacted when the child is admitted, when there are changes in the child's condition and at discharge. The primary physician, the inpatient pediatrician and the nursing staff work together as a team to ensure the child receives the best possible care close to home.

By bringing the expertise of CHOP into the Grand View community, Grand View is able to enhance its long-standing pediatric services while saving parents a potentially unpleasant trip into the city with a sick or injured child. Plus, by staying at Grand View, children and parents are in familiar surroundings with people they know.

In addition to providing pediatric services on the unit, the CHOP physicians are available for consultations in the Emergency Department and in the birthing room for complicated deliveries, C-sections, emergencies or newborns who may require additional intensive care.

As part of our partnership with The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Grand View offers an outpatient clinic service for pediatric cardiology. CHOP Cardiology subspecialists are available for consultations, EKG, holter monitoring, and echocardiography. This clinic is for children ages newborn to 18. A physician referral is necessary prior to seeing a CHOP subspecialist.
