Birth & Family Center (Maternity)

A baby is born at Grand View Hospital nearly 1200 times a year. Each one is its own miraculous event.

Our 25-bed maternity unit offers many options to fit the needs of today's families. On-site round-the-clock pediatrician coverage through CHOP Connection, a partnership with The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, is available to handle any special needs your newborn may have.

To make sure your pregnancy and delivery go as well as possible, the Birth and Family Center at Grand View Hospital offers programs and education that run the entire gamut of what becoming parents is all about.

From our preconception class, "A Baby…Maybe?" to childbirth preparation classes to delivery to maternity home care, Grand View offers comprehensive maternal/child services to ensure all your needs will be met.

Grand View named its program the Birth and Family Center because it follows a family-centered approach, offering something for every member of the new family. Everyone - mom, dad, siblings, and grandparents - has been carefully included in our planning process to help make parenting the best it can be.

A Baby…Maybe?
For those who want to get a head start on parenthood, Grand View offers "A Baby…Maybe?" which focuses on the physical, emotional and social issues to be considered prior to conception. This program, led by a registered nurse and an obstetrician/gynecologist, offers information on genetic testing, lifestyle changes, hazardous environments, balancing pregnancy and work, plus other issues.

This class will provide answers to these questions and more.

You will review previously learned information on relaxation and breathing exercises as well as comfort measures that you may need for your upcoming labor.

Page Dad Quick!
P.D.Q. is the perfect answer for keeping in close touch with the expectant father, support person or family members during the final months of pregnancy. The P.D.Q. pocket pager is small enough to fit in a pocket or purse and will alert your spouse or birthing partner at the touch of a button.

Perinatology
Perinatologists are now on the medical staff at Grand View Hospital to address the special needs of women whose pregnancy is deemed high-risk. A high-risk pregnancy involves an older pregnant woman, some pregnant teenagers, women with medical complications or a woman expecting more than one baby.

The special testing performed by the perinatologists includes amniocentisis, genetic testing, counseling, ultrasounds and more. Such tests can provide valuable information concerning the health of mother and baby.

These services are not limited to just those who intend to deliver at Grand View, but to anyone in the community needing such services. Preparing to become parents can be a stressful time. Add the potential of a high-risk pregnancy and having to travel far from home and the level of stress increases. By offering these services in the comfortable and familiar setting of Grand View, patients can access the same specialty services they need conveniently-close to home.

Perinatology services are offered only through physician referral. For further information regarding these services, please contact a physician.
