Grand View Renovates Hospital to Keep Pace with Health-Care Changes
We’re renovating and constructing new patient areas to keep pace with technology and clinical practice. This fall, steel was erected above the existing roofline for the addition of two patient units expected to open in Fall 2007. As construction occurs, several existing patient areas will be relocated and renovated—including the maternity unit, surgical suite, imaging services, orthopaedic unit and emergency department.

The hospital improvement project is the third phase of the $56 million Master Facility Plan, which also included the construction of the Outpatient Centers at Harleysville and Sellersville. Technology has made many procedures available on an outpatient basis. Meanwhile, improved home health services, such as those provided by Grand View Home Care, have enabled patients to recover safely at home. As a result, hospitalized patients today tend to be more acutely ill or injured than in the past. This has led to a demand for more privacy.

Similarly, changes in medical practice affect the design of newly constructed and renovated patient units and rooms. For example, joint-replacement patients are now encouraged to get out of bed and on their feet the day following surgery. As a result, certain types of rehabilitative services that require space, such as physical therapy, begin in the patient’s room.

In addition, a new entrance with an elevator will lead to the Surgical Short Stay Unit. Grand View Hospital is confident that the newly designed space will provide patients with privacy and convenience as well as address changes in medicine.
