Commitment to Community Care, Outpatient Services Strengthened Through New Harleysville Facility

On August 16, 2004, a milestone in the history of Grand View was achieved with the opening of the $8 million Grand View Hospital Outpatient Center at Harleysville. The 37,000-square-foot center provides highly advanced medical diagnostic care, women’s services, access to laboratory screenings, and sports medicine and physical rehabilitation services. Conveniently located in the Meadowbrook Plaza, 270 Main Street (Route 63), in Harleysville, the new center is the only provider of high-end medical services in Lower Salford Township.

“The opening of the outpatient center in Harleysville complements the existing services at the hospital in a patient-friendly environment that is geared to the needs of busy, well-informed healthcare consumers,” said Anthony Foderaro, M.D., Grand View Hospital Radiology Department Chairman. “I am excited to have the opportunity to serve the patients of this community in this truly state-of-the-art facility.”

16-slice CT Scanner

Grand View has further enhanced patient care in the region through installation of the GE Lightspeed 16-slice CT scanner, the most advanced CT scanner available. Representing a significant advance in CT scanner capabilities, the GE Lightspeed increases both the clarity and detail captured during an imaging session.

The new technology not only enhances diagnosis, but can help physicians more accurately target diseased cells or injured tissue, allowing treatment to focus on those areas while sparing surrounding organs and tissue.

PACS and Digital Technology

At the new outpatient center, digital imaging and computer storage have superceded the use of film. Through application of digital technology, physicians will obtain diagnostic images more quickly, be able to manipulate images to enhance diagnostic capability and will be able to store images electronically. A Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) will create an interface between the outpatient center, physician offices, and the hospital, allowing images to be shared almost instantly.

Open MRI

Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI, is a powerful diagnostic tool. For some patients the common closed MRI scan can be an uncomfortable experience. Children, larger adults, and claustrophobic individuals fare better with an Open MRI, which does not enclose the patient during the procedure. Indicative of the emphasis on patient comfort, the Harleysville Center will feature Open MRI.

DEXA Scans

Bone Densitometry with Dexa Scan is a precise and rapid method to monitor osteoporosis and osteopenia (a precursor condition to osteoporosis). The Grand View Hospital Outpatient Center at Harleysville features the newest generation of bone densitometer, with one-pass technology that improves patient comfort by providing a high-quality scan in just 10 seconds.

Digital Mammography

It has been called a significant advance in the fight against breast cancer. The Grand View Hospital Outpatient Center at Harleysville is equipped with the Senographe 2000D, a digital mammography system which produces images through a computer rather than relying on film. Digital mammography images are notable for their superior clarity and the process can offer better views of some parts of the breast than traditional mammography.

Computer-aided Detection
In tandem with digital mammography, the Grand View Hospital Outpatient Center at Harleysville features sophisticated software that has been shown to enhance early diagnosis of early stage cancers. CAD is like having another set of trained eyes reviewing the mammogram. The technology excels at detecting subtle changes that can lead to early diagnosis and more effective treatment.

Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine

A satellite of Grand View’s on-campus Sports Medicine Center provides treatment, physical therapy and rehabilitation for orthopaedic injuries. The facility is staffed with some of the most experienced and qualified orthopaedic surgeons in the region and features the most up-to-date exercise and rehabilitation modalities, including advanced exercise systems with training overseen by highly qualified and certified physical and occupational therapists.
