Annual Report 2001
The Grand View Health Foundation Honors Donors' Wishes
Since December 6, 1913 when Grand View opened its doors as the first hospital in Bucks County, we have been fortunate to enjoy the support of a generous community of donors. In 1990, the Hospital Board of Trustees established the Grand View Health Foundation, in part, to hold separately those charitable funds given by the community. By creating for the Foundation its own Board of Trustees, and distinguishing its resources from those of the Hospital, the Hospital Trustees made clear their commitment to honoring all donors' intentions.
Ways of Giving Through the Foundation, there are many ways to make a gift to Grand View Hospital. You may choose to contribute by giving an outright gift of cash, stock, or other personal property. We also encourage donors to consider special giving opportunities such as planned gifts or bequests as a way to perpetuate support for Grand View.

Gifts of Appreciated Stock
When you make an outright gift of appreciated stock that you have held for more than a year, you will avoid the 20 percent long-term capital gains tax, as well as receive a charitable deduction for the fair market value of the stock.
Charitable Gift Annuity
You can receive guaranteed, fixed payments for your lifetime and that of another beneficiary, when you make a gift for a charitable gift annuity. Your rate would be unaffected by fluctuations in the stock market. You also receive an immediate income tax deduction, reduce your capital gains tax should you choose to use appreciated securities to make the gift and, in most cases, increase your income. Part of each payment to you will be tax free for a number of years.
Making a Bequest
The most familiar and one of the simplest ways to make a planned gift, and reduce your estate taxes, is through a charitable bequest in your will to the Grand View Health Foundation. Our Federal tax identification number is 23-2622621. Worthy of Support Assessing and preparing for the evolving healthcare needs of our community have always been the Board's highest priorities. In the recently completed fiscal year, the Grand View Health Foundation made allocations totaling $439,000 to these programs:
- HospicePalliative care for those with terminal illnesses.
- Mental Health Crisis UnitEnsuring that mental health professionals are available for emergency cases at Grand View.
- Access Medical CareDiagnosis and treatment provided by Grand View and our physicians for those with no health insurance.
- Healthy Beginnings PlusPrenatal services provided to ensure the birth of healthy babies.
- Medical Management Health InitiativesSpecial community health activities such as the medication card and diabetes education program.
- Bucks County Health Improvement ProjectDental care provided at no charge to low-income children throughout Bucks County.
- Congregational NursingTraining for those who wish to offer screenings and health awareness service in their faith-based communities.
In the last year, Grand View has received more than $400,000 in gifts and pledges for the Radiation Oncology and MRI projects recently completed at the Hospital. All areas of the Hospital have benefited from the support of grateful patients who have chosen to direct a gift to a particular program or department. A case in point is ten-year-old Amanda Yoder, who after spending some time as an asthma patient in the Pediatrics Department last winter, decided the videos and Nintendo games were lacking. She went back to her school, Penn View Christian, and with her classmates, raised $651.53 to be used in Pediatrics for a new entertainment center. In case you thought Amanda was our youngest donor, consider the case of five-year-old Conor Brady, who announced to his mom that he would sell some of his toys and drawings at the family yard sale and donate the money to "kids in the hospital." Amanda's and Conor's gifts, along with all of the other generosity and financial assistance documented throughout this annual report, are a means of ensuring the continuation of our programs and services. How to Proceed We hope you will explore the many ways of supporting the Grand View Health Foundation. Those who make us aware of planned gifts or bequests in their estate are recognized as members of the Visionary Society.
