May is National Stroke Awareness Month
A stroke occurs when a blockage stops blood flow to the brain or when a blood vessel in or around the brain bursts. Here are some things about stroke that you may not know:
| • Nearly a quarter of all strokes occur in people younger than age 65. |
| • Each year, almost 800,000 strokes occur in the United States. |
| • Stroke is a leading cause of serious, long-term adult disability. |
| • Stroke is currently the fourth leading cause of death in the US. |
| • Two million brain cells die every minute during stroke, making it vital to recognize the symptoms and act FAST. |
