Grand View Hospital Employees Give Cancer Survivors ‘Baskets of Hope’
(September 29, 2010) Sellersville, PA - For cancer survivors and their loved ones, hope can come in many forms – hearing an encouraging story from a fellow survivor, discovering that you are an inspiration to others, or learning tips on how to cope with the disease. On Saturday, Sept 25 at Grand View Hospital’s Cancer Survivors Celebration, hope came in all of these forms, but it also came in the form of baskets created by hospital employees.

“We wanted to show our guests, whether they are currently under treatment or are in remission, that the entire hospital is behind them in their battle with cancer. The result was our Baskets of Hope Contest,” said Dorothy Barwis, Radiation Oncology Manager and Master of Ceremonies of the event. “We asked hospital departments to create a gift basket to instill a sense of hope among our guests. The turnout was truly touching. We received basket after basket, totaling more than 30 from throughout the hospital. I couldn’t believe it.”

With themes ranging from golf and sports to movie night and rainy day fun, guests voted for their favorite basket during the event. The winner was a fall-themed basket of gift cards, given by Grand View’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department.

More than 110 people attended the event, held at Calvary Church in Souderton. The morning’s activities also included a complimentary breakfast and inspirational talks by Martin Hightower, MD, Chairman of Radiation Oncology; Eva Grayzel,
