Grand View Medical Company Donates Wheelchair to Train Drivers of Students with Special Needs
(February 11, 2011) Sellersville, PA – Pennridge School District Transportation has a new wheelchair for training bus drivers of students with special needs thanks to Grand View Medical Company.
Barry Gorin, assistant general manager of Grand View Medical Company, presented the wheelchair to bus driver Claudia Clemmer. She trains all new Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) drivers in the district on properly loading and securing both student and wheelchair for safe transport on a school bus.
“Safety is so important in transporting students with special needs,” Clemmer said. “This wheelchair helps new drivers learn important procedures like how to properly attach safety straps and load students using a lift.” The new wheelchair replaces an outdated one that was about 20 years old. “We are grateful Grand View Medical Company responded to our need.” Twelve to 15 students in wheelchairs are transported daily in the district according to the Transportation Department.
