‘Festival of Lights’ Tree Lighting at Grand View Hospital
(December 9, 2011) Sellersville, PA – The ‘Festival of Lights’ marked the beginning of its 28th season at Grand View Hospital with a dedication ceremony and lighting of the trees in honor of loved ones on Wednesday evening, December 7. The ceremony included a reading of the names of individuals and organizations being honored and memorialized followed by the lighting of trees in the lobby and on the hospital grounds.
Event co-chair Irene Roberts said, “This is a festive way to honor and remember a special person who has touched your life. These shining lights are a unique way to share the spirit of that individual with others.”
The audience enjoyed holiday musical selections performed by vocalist Jenna Myers, a junior at Souderton High School. Prelude music was performed by accomplished pianist Dave Kenney, who entertains audiences throughout the Tri-State area.
Over 10,000 lights illuminating the hospital and its grounds this holiday season create a winter wonderland setting made possible by thousands of donations over the years in honor of loved ones. Red lights honor cancer survivors while all other lights are white. A baby tree located in the hospital lobby celebrates new births and is filled with ornaments personalized with names of newborns.
Anyone can participate in Festival of Lights now through January 15th by making a $20 minimum contribution to:
- Memorialize someone special;
- Honor a person or organization;
- Recognize a cancer survivor; or
- Celebrate the birth of a baby.
In addition to illuminating a light, the names of those recognized will appear in a display case in the hospital lobby. For contributions of $100 or more, the name of the honored or memorialized person will be added to the Eternal Tree plaques displayed in the hospital year-round and a light will be lit during Festival of Lights for years to come.
All funds raised by this Grand View Hospital Auxiliary event become part of a gift to support special projects at the hospital.
